15 dead, many missing after highway bridge collapse in China

Rescuers have now found the bodies of 15 people who died when a highway bridge collapsed in flash floods in northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, Xinhua reports.

Many are still missing after at least 20 vehicles plunged into the swollen Jinqian River after a 40-meter section of the No. 2 Bridge in Yanping Village collapsed at about 8.40pm local time on Friday amid heavy rains.

Officials said 1,630 rescuers, 205 vehicles, 63 boats, and six sniffer dogs spent the weekend searching for the missing.

The latest update came Sunday evening.
