Kier signs £243m army barracks upgrade

Kier has signed on the dotted line on a contract to upgrade Keogh army barracks in Aldershot.

The £243m contract includes mostly new-build construction of live, work and train facilities over the next five years.

The award is part of the wider Defense Estate Optimisation Single Living Accomodation & Technical Infrastructure Programme, which spans the MoD’s UK estate.

Seven firms – Galliford Try, ISG, Graham, Kier, Laing O’Rourke, Lendlease Construction and Morgan Sindall – are part of the wider Strategic Alliance selected to deliver these works.

The latest deal follows a £159m contract with Lendlease Construction last year for new build single living quarters at Beacon Barracks, in Stafford.

Defence Estate Optimisation is the single biggest estates change programme within defence.  It involves an ambitious portfolio of interdependent programmes, construction activity, unit and personnel moves, and land release.

At the heart of DEO’s vision is a significant construction and refurbishment programme for both single living and service family accommodation as well as a range of, operational, educational, and technical facilities.
