Danish architect Dorte Mandrup and Norwegian outdoor brand Norrøna have unveiled the Norrøna Lodge, a 1,800-sq-m hotel located above the Arctic Circle on Senja, Norway’s second largest island.
The hotel will contain 24 guest rooms, a restaurant, sauna and conservatory.
The design features a series of individual cabins, connected by a large stone roof that aims to fit into the landscape.
From above, the building almost disappears into the terrain.
Jørgen Jørgensen, Norrøna’s chief executive, said: “This location deserves the best of architecture, materials, and craftsmanship, and we are therefore delighted to have Dorte Mandrup join our team.
“We want to show the world the wonderful nature and people of Senja, and give our guests experiences that they can’t get anywhere else.”
Completion of the hotel is due in 2026. When open the hotel will accommodate 10-20 year-round jobs, as well as demand for local goods and services.
