French civil engineer NGE and Italian contractor Webuild have been chosen to build a section of Metro Line 15 – otherwise known as the Grand Paris Express – a circular line intended to improve lateral communication between the city’s arrondissements.
They will tackle a section in the northwest quadrant of the ring, between the future stations of Bécon-les-Bruyères and Les Grésillons.
The work will involve the design and construction of four underground stations and 7km of tunnels.
The €1.4bn deal was awarded to the two companies by the Société des Grands Projets. Webuild will take 45.5% of the contract. Energy company Equans and engineer TSO were also involved in the bid.
Webuild and NGE are already collaborating on Line 16 of the metro, to be completed in the autumn, as well as the Ontario line in Toronto.
The Rome-based contractor comments that the project will be “guided by principles of eco-design and reduction of the environmental impact of the works, during the construction phase as well as for the use phase”.
This will involve the use of low-carbon concrete and, more generally, of materials with low environmental impact.
