CR Construction (UK) wins £34m historic mill restoration

The UK arm of Hong Kong-listed contractor CR Construction has won the job to create 190 flats at the historic former Talbot Mill in Manchester.

Manchester-based developer Capital & Centric is behind the plans to restore one of the city’s oldest Victorian mills, located in Ellesmere Street, Castlefield.

Under a £37m contract, CR Construction (UK) will deliver 190 homes along with public realm and amenity block works against a 105-week programme.

The project will consist of three residential blocks including two mill building refurbishments and a 10-storey new build.

Calum Kidd,  managing director of the UK contracting arm, said: “The PCSA process has demonstrated how we can work with clients in a collaborative manner and achieve a positive outcome. The project will hopefully be our first of many working together.

John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital&Centric, said: “We’ve diversified what we do, bringing our approach to creating flagship new neighbourhoods to towns and cities in UK.

“But it’s always a pleasure to get back to where it all started for Capital&Centric, repurposing stunning historic buildings into something really special.

“The re-birth of Talbot will build on what we’ve done at Crusader and Kampus in the city, delivering a genuine community with lush outdoor spaces to boot.”
