Besix says its Australian subsidiary Besix Watpac is now halfway through building the 30,000-seat Te Kaha stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Commissioned by Christchurch City Council, the $417m (NZ$683m) multi-use facility is scheduled for completion in 2025.
Besix Watpac started building it in 2021.
The design team includes Mott MacDonald, Christchurch-based architects Warren and Mahoney, and Populous.
Recent works include installing the roof on the west stand, set to house function spaces, player facilities, corporate boxes, and coaches’ and media facilities.
Steel framing on the northeast stand has also been completed, and the installation of concrete seating plats in this area is nearing completion.
The plats will support the arena’s tiered seating structure.
Besix Watpac project director Adrian Jones credited the project’s collaborative approach.
“The project is in such a good position today due to the strong relationship we have with Christchurch City Council and our subcontractors,” he said.
“The collaborative approach adopted at the very start of the project has continued through delivery.”
