Grimshaw designs Paris metro station

UK architect Grimshaw has been chosen to design La Défense metro station for the Grand Paris Express.

The station will be located south of the existing station’s forecourt on Place Louise Bourgeois. It will be predominantly underground, but there will be a large glazed building on the surface, with a timber slat ceiling that will support a green roof.

Alice Barrois, Grimshaw Paris’ principal, said: “Contributing to this major project for the west of Paris was an obvious choice for us. Our expertise in infrastructure means we can work with our partners to shape a sustainable city.”

In July 2023, the consortium won the €2.7bn design-and-build contract for the first section of Line 15, as the Grand Paris Express is also called. The station is due to open to the public in 2031.
