As Russia steps up its attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, US engineer Aecom has partnered with Ukrainian hydropower company Ukrhydroenergo to be technical advisor in the rebuilding of bombed dams.
Earlier this month, Ukraine’s biggest plant, the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant in Zaporizhzhia, lost all production capacity after missile strikes.
Aecom will identify needs and execute work on Ukraine’s dams, which the company hopes will provide reliable electricity to millions.
The deal was signed during this week’s 2024 Ukraine Recovery Conference in Berlin.
Ihor Syrota, Ukrhydroenergo’s chief executive, said: “Today, the restoration, protection and preparation of energy facilities for winter remain a priority for Ukraine.
“Aecom has many years of professional experience in the development, design and reconstruction of hydropower facilities and dams around the world.”
Aecom has previously signed up to rebuild Boryspil, Ukraine’s largest airport and a memorandum of understanding for the country’s post-war reconstruction programme.
