The contractor has confirmed that redundancies are in consultation at BAM’s London and Northern teams- the second round in a year
Another round of redundancies have been confirmed at BAM’s construction division.
Up to 40 jobs are at risk in the London and Northern teams, following job losses in the London and Western regions earlier this year.
One of the UK’s largest contractors, BAM’s construction arm reported a loss of around £12.5m before tax in February of this year.
“Like all businesses we need to be flexible and adapt to current market conditions.”
A BAM spokesperson said: “Within the construction sector the market has been particularly challenging over the past couple of years. As a result of this we have started a consultation process about reducing staff numbers within the construction segment of BAM UK and Ireland Division.
“This is not a decision we have taken lightly but these proposed changes will support us in further embedding our regional and divisional structures which have been implemented over recent years.”
The news follows a difficult 12 months for BAM
Chief executive of parent company Royal BAM, Ruud Joosten, blamed the decision on “supply chain issues and cost overruns at a large project”.
Whilst not specified as the large project in question, BAM faced serious criticism after the multiple delayed openings of the £365m Co-op Live Arena in Manchester earlier this year, due to incomplete works, with project costs going £85m over budget.
The company also restructured the number of construction operating regions from seven to five in 2023.
