A 29-year-old worker has died on a construction project at Florida’s Tampa International Airport after the machine he was operating fell from the airport’s shuttle track with him inside just before 8am on 31 July.
The man, Cesar Hernandez Donu, was working on the airport’s Airside A Shuttle Guideway Refurbishment Project, begun last year with Florida-based Johnson-Laux Construction as the general contractor.
The event took place near the airport’s Blue Arrivals lanes, with airport police initially closing the Blue Arrivals area.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is conducting an investigation at the site. The airport’s police department and Tampa Police are also investigating the accident.
The airport’s baggage claim area, ticketing floor and shuttle are due to be renovated or are being worked on currently.
