Aecom has won a contract to help the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (aka Metro) make its bus fleet zero emission.
Aecom will provide conceptual design, specification, and procurement support for charging and other infrastructure. It did not reveal the contract value.
In July, Metro received a federal grant of $77.5m through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to help decarbonise its fleet of more than 2,000 buses.
It was the second-biggest award among 117 projects selected for funding around the country.
Metro had earlier released a solicitation to buy 260 battery electric buses and 20 hydrogen fuel cell electric buses, with options to expand the purchase of both types to a combined 1,980 vehicles.
“This project will set a national example for how transit agencies can successfully transition to zero emissions buses and modernise their facilities to support this new fleet technology,” said Matt Crane, chief executive of Aecom’s western US region.
