Spanish contractor Acciona has won contracts for New York’s new Hip Hop Museum in the Bronx and the renovation of the Museum of Immigration on Ellis Island.
At the Hip Hop Museum, Acciona Cultura will create a 55,000-sq-ft space for exhibitions celebrating the genre’s contribution to society ahead of its opening in late 2025.
On Ellis Island, Acciona Cultura will help add 100,000 sq ft of exhibition space over the 34-year-old Museum of Immigration’s three floors.
In April 2024, it was announced that $100m would go towards the refurbishment and extension of the museum, which is expected to be completed in 2026.
Alex Manresa, Acciona Cultura’s US director, said: “The history of immigration through Ellis Island and the contribution of Hip Hop to world culture are two of America’s most compelling and fascinating stories, and we take huge pride in being a part of how they will be told.”
