San Francisco startup Canvas has launched a compact and lightweight 1200CX drywall finishing machine.

Canvas said the 1200CX reduces mud application and sanding from five to two days, and captures 99% of dust.

The machine is equipped with a UR10e robot arm from Universal Robots for Level 4 and 5 spray and sand.

All-wheel steering makes it easy to manoeuvre, even in tight spaces. The machine is compact, measuring 30 by 34.5 inches, weighs just 1,200lb, and has a 12ft finishing height. Other features include a long-lasting battery so it can run all day on a single charge.

Canvas said using a robot ensures consistent high quality. It added the 1200CX is intuitive to use, and helps reduce fatigue, injuries, and 70% of repetitive motions.

Co-founder and chief technology officer of Canvas, Maria Telleria, said: “For the first time in the history of construction, the tools we are providing for our workers only get better after the initial purchase.

“We are constantly improving the quality, safety, consistency, and productivity of our products enabling our clients to stay at the front of the industry.”

Both the 1200CX and the 1550, which has a finishing height of 15.5ft, will benefit from over-the-air (OAT) updates of software upgrades. New features include targeted sanding and tool path optimisation for both L4 and L5.

Canvas said the addition means its fleet can now handle a broader range of buildings, such as residential, hospitality, hospitals, data centres, airports, manufacturing, and more.
