Challenge announcement for the 2025 Big Construction Diversity Challenge

The 2025 Big Construction Diversity Challenge promotes equality, diversity, and inclusion in the construction industry

The challenges are intended to promote equality, diversity and inclusion across the construction sector

The 2025 Big Construction Diversity Challenge will take place on 27 June at Newark Showground, Nottinghamshire, and will be composed of 15 challenges to demonstrate the diversity required for a team to work to its full potential.

The event, organised by Nimble Media Ltd, will allow organisations to collaborate and share best practices, network, and bring more inclusion to the construction sector.

The challenges are as follows:

  • Walk the Plank – Walking, as a team, on two planks with rope handles, this challenge promotes organisation by communicating, agreeing on procedures, being prepared to accommodate one another, and thinking of the team.
  • Space Hopper Basketball – This is no ordinary game of Basketball because it is played on Space Hoppers.
  • Silent Disco – Teams go head-to-head to name as many songs as possible based only on dance moves. Only the dancers can hear the music, but can their teammates decipher the song?
  • Hungry Hippo – Teams compete to collect as many balls as they can. When the game begins, all four ‘hippos’ will try and run to the centre of the inflatable to collect a ball, then being pulled back by the bungee ropes attached to your belt.
  • Golden Bungee Balls – Fight against the bungee rope around your waist and catch in your Golden Bucket. But be careful when you throw, any that miss the bucket will not be counted.
  • Bring on the Beans – Armed with cups and a basic ‘tool kit’, each team will race across a giant inflatable course to fill their container with beans. The person ‘caring’ for the beans is blindfolded and will be guided by a trusty teammate through the bouncy terrain.
  • Blindfolded Face Painting – Race against the clock to create a masterpiece. Four team members will become blindfolded makeup artists, four will be painted and two will give verbal instructions to the artists.
  • Catwalk Challenge – Create the most daring, brightest and flamboyant headpiece. You’ll have 10 minutes to create three looks before hitting the runway in front of adoring crowds.
  • Dance along to the hits of Broadway. Judges will decide who has the best moves.
  • Which team will perform the best Haka? A Haka expert will show contestants the moves and teach the words, before stepping onto the hallowed ground that is the ‘Big Business Rugby Pitch’ to perform.
  • Human Table Football – Teams play against each other to score maximum goals in their allocated time on an inflatable human table football arena.
  • It’s a Knockout – Teams compete in head-to-head races throughout the session. Which will be the first team to negotiate the ultimate inflatable challenge?
  • Last One Standing – Players stand on an inflatable bed while the arm swings round, having to jump and balance in order to be the last one standing.
  • The Mighty Quiz – Teams face off to tackle trivia, crack conundrums and answer their way to victory.

This is the first BCDC event

The event comes as a result of the success of the Big Rail Diversity Challenge, which first took place in 2016, as well as the Big Logistics Diversity Challenge in 2019.

The 2025 BCDC has brought together key industry stakeholders, including the British Woodworking Federation, the Asbestos Control and Abatement Division, and the Thermal Insulation Contractors Association, giving them a chance to demonstrate their commitment to promoting EDI.

Richard Atkinson CBE, CILT fellow and Aston University academic fellow in supply chain management and engineering systems, said: “Without diversity and inclusion, we won’t have diversity of thought; without diversity of thought, we won’t have innovation; without innovation, we won’t have sustainable supply chains; and without sustainable supply chains, we won’t save the planet!”

Chief executive of CRASH, Trisha Pickersgill, says: “We are delighted that CRASH will be involved in the first Big Construction Diversity Challenge 2025, and we look forward to it growing and becoming an annual event to encourage equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the construction industry.”

Vicky Binley, Nimble Media Ltd, director comments, “We hope The Big Construction Diversity Challenge captivates the construction sector as more organisations recognise the value of fostering diverse and inclusive teams,”

“This year’s event offers a day brimming with energy and collaboration for participants, underpinned by the message that inclusivity benefits both individuals and businesses alike.”
