Contractor consultation starts on £5bn reservoir building plan

Anglian Water is starting market engagement with all-tier contractors on its ambitious plan to build two major reservoir projects.

The £5bn Lincolnshire and Fens Reservoir Programme is expected to go out to tender on in January 2027.

Anglian procurement chief are now seeking to engage interested firms to inform the main works contract procurement and packaging strategy.

Under the present plan, main works contractors will be responsible for the detailed design and construction of the assets within the project.

Anglian said this would require extensive involvement and expertise of Tier 2/3 supply chain specialists, covering all the necessary groundworks, building, water treatment plant, MEICA and associated activities.

Fens Reservoir

Construction to start between 2029-2031 to come into service in 2036.

The proposed scheme will be located 30 miles north of Cambridge between Chatteris and March.

At its greatest dimensions, it will be 2.6km wide and 2.4km long to the embankment toe.

Lincolnshire Reservoir

Construction to start between 2029-2031 for 2039 delivery

The proposed LR scheme location is 30 miles south of Lincoln. The reservoir will be 2.6km wide and 3.2km long to the embankment toe.
