Coroner hears how worker was crushed under digger

Inquest opens into tragedy at Rose Builders site  

A construction worker was killed after being trapped under a digger an inquest opening heard on Monday.

Essex Coroner’s Service heard how Lulzim Lleshi, a 45-year-old agency worker from Dunmow, died on April 7 on a construction site in Colchester Road, near West Bergholt.

The housing  job was run by local contractor Rose Builders who are building a collection of detached family homes in the village.

The Daily Gazette reported that Lleshi operated a digger on the building site.

During work Lleshi got trapped underneath the heavy machinery and resuscitation attempts by paramedics were unsuccessful.

A forensic examination provided a provisional cause of death as due to multiple injuries.

As Essex Police and HSE are investigating the incident Essex area coroner Lincoln Brookes agreed to suspend the full inquest for three months.

He said: “I suspend the proceedings on written request by the HSE which is conducting a potential criminal investigation into the circumstances of Mr Lleshi’s death.

“I send my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones.”
