Dandara are now exclusively hiring telehandlers equipped with AI safety cameras to decrease risk of on-site incident.

The cameras can recognise human shapes in order to improve safety, with a visual and audio warning system
The AI safety cameras are equipped to 14-metre Loadall telehandlers that Dandara hires.
The telehandlers are now required to have the cameras equipped.
The AI safety cameras warn of collision risks
The cameras are equipped with Artificial Intelligence-powered Human Form Recognition, which can detect when humans are in view, and send a warning to the telehandler operator.
The cameras are equipped on either side and the back of the telehandlers, helping mitigate risk to human life in the blind spots and more difficult-to-see areas. This is delivered through a visual and audio warning within the operator’s cabin.
The visual image shows the detected risk, allowing operators to steer clear or stop as needed. The audio warning can also be fitted to the outside of the telehandler to warn those around of the risk.
Through the use of AI, objects around the workplace can be filtered so that only human forms deliver a warning.
“A significant positive shift in on-site behaviour”
Artificial Intelligence cameras are seeing increasing use in the built environment’s health and safety aspects, such as at the Sellafield nuclear site last year. The cameras at Sellafield were equipped to a mobile-operated plant in the same manner that Dandara is using their AI safety cameras.
Chris Ball, Dandara’s head of health, safety and environmental, said: “We chose UK Forks as they had the ability to provide the human detection solution we needed and to implement that solution across our active fleet of telehandlers on all our sites throughout the UK. Along with the HFR cameras already installed and operational, they will also respond to any associated mechanical issues promptly and provide the support and expertise we always look for in a partner.
“Operators have reported a significant positive shift in on-site behaviour as workers on site are showing more respect for the machine movements and are more reluctant to approach them without authorisation from the operators. The external audible alerts are proving to be beneficial in changing people’s behaviours and habits around operational telehandlers. We are also utilising the integrated telematics to improve fleet efficiency and reduce risk.
“The service and support from UK Forks has been excellent and their engineers completed the installs across the entire fleet smoothly and efficiently. Going forward, all new hires will have HFR cameras fitted prior to arriving on site as per our hire option terms.”
