Galliford Try wins £45m high security prison fire safety retrofit

HMP Wakefield provides upgrade challenges in secure environments  

Galliford Try has clinched a £45m contract to deliver essential fire safety improvements at high-security Category A prison HMP Wakefield.

Delivered by Galliford Try’s Building North East and Yorkshire team, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, the project will involve improvements across the entire facility, requiring close collaboration with the prison to minimise disruptions to daily operations.

Work has now commenced on site on the comprehensive upgrades that include fire compartmentalisation, emergency lighting, smoke extraction systems, fire alarms and misting reels.

Steve Ripp, Custodial and Judicial Director for Galliford Try, said: “This project reinforces Galliford Try’s expertise in delivering critical infrastructure in secure environments and underscores our commitment to helping the MOJ improve safety standards in the UK’s custodial facilities.”
