British fusion investment fund Starmaker One has received a £20 million boost from the UK government to kickstart growth.
The government hopes the cash injection will help firms in the fusion energy sector train their workforce in physics, engineering and chemistry, boost private investment, and ultimately help startups scale commercially.
Energy minister Kerry McCarthy said: “We are backing British pioneers to secure the clean energy of the future while supporting jobs today, from scientists and welders to engineers and construction managers.”
The initiative is also expected to make its mark in industrial AI, robotics, energy storage, magnetics, transportation and more.
The government committed £410 million to the fusion energy sector in January.
