Mace tops February contracts league

Confirmation of £300m London Victoria Street project lifts firm to pole position  

A £300m redevelopment of a former Government office in London lifted Mace to pole position in the February league table for work won.

The 1 Victoria Street project for developer Mitsubishi Estate involves retaining the basement of the former Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy building with a full above ground rebuild.

The win helped to lift Mace to ninth position in the 12 months rolling league measuring the cumulative haul of recent new orders.

According to data compiled by Barbour ABI, the value of projects secured by the leading 50 contractors slipped 7% to £4.26bn in February from £4.56bn. The number of project awards remained stable at 132.

Sir Robert McAlpine replaced Morgan Sindall at the top of the rolling 12-month league after its IHP joint venture with Vinci secured confirmation for the Poole Hospital rebuild in Dorset.

Among the other big wins in February, Skanska was confirmed for the £200m A47 Thickthorn Junction upgrade in Norfolk.

Wates also picked up a brace of big projects with a near £100m project for Surrey police known as the Mount Brown Headquarters and a £70m package of work at HMP Wayland men’s prison near Thetford, Norfolk.
