Manufacturing Productivity Crisis to be Tackled at MACH 2024

In the UK manufacturing sector, productivity remains a key focus area for industry stakeholders. While advancements in technology offer promising opportunities for efficiency gains, challenges persist in achieving optimal productivity levels. Factors such as skills shortages, ageing infrastructure, and supply chain disruptions continue to impact productivity across various manufacturing sub-sectors.

The MACH 2024 event heralds a new era for UK manufacturing, with the launch of the Knowledge Hubs initiative by the Manufacturing Technologies Association (MTA). These hubs are set to revolutionise the industry by providing manufacturers with insights into the adoption of new technology to improve productivity and efficiency.

According to James Selka DL, CEO of the MTA, “The MTA is part of a united front of UK manufacturing organisations…to increase the uptake of technologies such as automation and robotics.” This sentiment underscores the importance of leveraging technology to drive growth and competitiveness in the manufacturing sector.

The Knowledge Hubs initiative showcases cutting-edge technology across various sectors, including automation, robotics, additive manufacturing, and more. By providing dedicated stands focusing on specific types of technology, attendees of MACH 2024 can gain in-depth insights into how these innovations can streamline processes, reduce costs, and boost productivity.

The event will be taking place a the Birmingham NEC from the 15th-19th of April, hosting hundreds of exhibiting Manufacturers, and thousands of attendees each day.

One of the standout features of the initiative is its collaboration with specialist centres from the High-Value Manufacturing Catapult, such as the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) and the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC). This collaboration ensures that attendees have access to the latest research and development in the industry, empowering them to implement proven techniques to enhance their output.

The Government’s recent announcement of £4.5 billion in funding to support advanced manufacturing further highlights the importance of technology adoption in driving growth. With a focus on themes like sustainability and energy efficiency, this funding will directly benefit manufacturers looking to optimise their operations through innovative technologies.

At MACH 2024, attendees will have the opportunity to engage with industry experts, explore live demonstrations, and discover practical strategies for integrating technology into their operations. By leveraging the insights gained from the Knowledge Hubs, manufacturers can unlock new opportunities, drive innovation, and propel the industry forward.
