Morgan Sindall takes on £22m stalled ISG Cardiff school job

Vale of Glamorgan Council has agreed a £22m deal with Morgan Sindall to finish a stalled ISG school job in Penarth on the outskirts of Cardiff.

Morgan Sindall Construction’s Cardiff business is currently putting together a workplan before construction recommences on the school designed for pupils with Additional Learning Needs.

Located on land near Cosmeston Country Park, Ysgol Llyn Derw will accommodate 150 pupils in a two-storey building.

ISG started the project under a £20m contract just a few months before it collapsed into administration in September.

Rob Williams, Area Director of Morgan Sindall Construction in Wales, said that Ysgol Llyn Derw’s design incorporates solar panels and a hybrid generator to power the site, all built from energy efficient materials to contribute to a carbon neutral finish.

The space will also feature natural light and ventilation wherever possible, with green roofs and a host of other environmentally friendly features integrated to enhance biodiversity.

Councillor Lis Burnett, Leader of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, said: “We’re delighted that Morgan-Sindall has agreed to take on this project and look forward to working with them on its delivery.”
