Northumbria Uni invites bids for £75m CHASE project

The University of Northumbria has started the bid race for a landmark £75m teaching and research facility in Newcastle.

Its ambitious plan to develop its Centre for Health and Social Equity (CHASE) will bring together academics working on health, social care, education, wellbeing and equity issues across the University’s City and Coach Lane Campuses into one central base in the heart of Newcastle.

It will provide laboratories and teaching space to house some of the University’s leading partnerships with national and international organisations.

The location will also be home to a new Energy Centre that will provide sustainable energy for several Northumbria’s existing buildings.

The Centre will support the University’s decarbonisation and net zero plans and is intended to contribute to the City’s energy needs over time.

The design and build project will advance as a two-stage tender. The pre-construction services element will include the demolition of Claude Gibb, a 12-storey high-rise university accommodation block and associated single-storey blocks to the North West of the site.
