Robots can make sites safer and more efficient, says Okibo

Robots can make construction sites more efficient and safer, and help with labour shortages.

That was the claim from Okibo COO and co-founder Nadav Shuruk at the launch of its EG7 painting and drywall finishing robot onto the US market.

The Israeli company said its AI-guided robots have covered more than one million square feet across Europe and are now being used on major US construction sites.

Shuruk said construction sites can become “significantly more efficient” and “incredibly safer” using robots. 

He added: “Robots can’t fall off ladders or get neck, back, arm and shoulder injuries from repetitive movements, and Okibo’s robots nearly eliminate dust on a jobsite, leading to healthier indoor air quality and better respiratory health.”

Powered by battery-operated units without external cabling, WiFi/5G, total station, or external sensors, the EG7 can paint and sand drywall at a rate of 1,500 sq ft per hour. 

The 800lb EG7 uses an AI-guided 3D scanning and real-time modelling algorithm. This means it can be used without preparation, measurement tools, marking, or BIM tools. EG7 is just 27 inches wide, and manoeuvres easily, helping it navigate confined spaces.

Shuruk said: “In an industry that is quickly adapting new technologies to improve performance and safety, our robots are designed to operate alongside humans and literally require no tech skills or set-up time.”
