The US Senate has passed a bill that would allow $105bn to be spent on airport improvements.
The bipartisan bill was approved by the upper house by 88 votes to four, and on Friday will be presented to the House of Representatives.
The bill reflects figures contained the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) five-year plan. This includes $19bn for airport infrastructure improvement, $18bn for the upgrading of FAA facilities and equipment and $1.6bn on research and development.
Jack Reed, a Democrat senator from Rhode Island, said: “US airports and airlines have seen substantial growth, and we must ensure we continue to invest in the technology, facilities, and infrastructure to keep them safe and efficient.”
