A joint venture between Tutor Perini and O&G has won a $1.3bn contract to build a moveable, 1,500ft-long replacement for the Connecticut River Bridge.
Located between Old Saybrook and Old Lyme in Connecticut, the design will allow trains on the Northeast Corridor to reach speeds of up to 70mph, compared with 45mph at present.
Some $826m of the $1.3bn cost is being funded by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, with the remainder coming from Amtrak and the state of Connecticut.
Chris Murphy, the state’s senator, said: “Investing in the future of rail in Connecticut is a no-brainer – it makes life easier for travellers and commuters, boosts economic growth, creates good-paying jobs and helps fight the climate crisis.”
Construction is due to begin in late summer or early autumn.
