US retailer Walmart has expanded a supermarket in Athens, Tennessee, with a 20ft-high printed concrete structure.
The 8,000 sq ft expansion will be used by Walmart’s online pickup and delivery business.
Walmart said that this method of building allowed it to improve its environmental performance and to accelerate construction.
Walmart selected Alquist 3D to carry out the work on the basis of its track record of delivering complex projects.
Zachary Mannheimer, Alquist 3D’s founder, said: “This is the first such facility of its kind and it’s just incredible that it is a reality; this is going to play a major role in the advance of concrete printing technology.”
Walmart said it expected to work with Alquist on future projects.
