Spanish construction group Rubau and Mexican civil engineer VISE have won a €300m public–private partnership contract to build and maintain a toll road between the towns of Silao and San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico.
The road is to be built within the next 24 months, after which the two companies will operate it for 28 years.
This contract includes the rehabilitation, operation and maintenance of the existing highway between the towns.
The two companies emerged from a longlist of 15 bidders to win the concession.
The new highway will run for 86km. As well as improving communication in the state, it will contribute to promoting and connecting the Valle de la Independencia tourist region with the Bajío International Airport.
The existing state-owned road will be widened from five lanes to eight.
Rubau commented in a press statement that the win would reinforce its position in the concession business and its presence in Mexico.
It is already undertaking road improvements on the highway between Maravatío and Zitacuaroa northwest of Mexico City. This €84m project is expected to be completed in 2026.
